Curator: Professor Sarah Bennett & el Don Multimedia Editor Kate Bustamante
Theme: “Santa Ana Stories” Zine Workshop with El Don
Session Details: Community storytelling workshop: Demo on how to ask open-ended questions, capture community narratives and create digital and physical archives – then let them interview each other and try it! Zine workshop: Short demo on easy self-publishing and information as community power, then have everyone in the session create a page. I can bring my own typewriters, examples and supplies – and compile it all into a zine for everyone to take home at the end.
el Don and eldonnews.org is the student voice at Santa Ana College. As part of their journalism coursework, student reporters cover a wide range of issues and subjects that effect the campus and the Santa Ana community.
A digital-first publication, el Don posts on social media and online daily and can be found in print through our monthly newsmagazine, available across campus and throughout the city.
Our students routinely win state, national and international honors for their journalistic skills that include: editorial leadership, writing, reporting, design, photography, emerging media and management.
el Don is a student-run media outlet produced as part of the Communications and Media Studies department’s robust journalism curriculum; it has been serving the community with fair and accurate journalism since 1923.
el Don encourages the expression of all views, and reserves the right to refuse advertising. It does not necessarily subscribe to the views of its advertisers.
