This is Laura’s third year serving as a curator for the Boca de Oro Festival. She is the director of Avantgarden Gallery and has shown her art work for at least 10 of its 20 years in Santa Ana. She is past president and a board member of the non-profit Orange County Fine Arts. SESSION 3 MOVING FROM IDEA, TO PAGE, TO SCREEN
Presenter: Phillip Powers
Phillip Powers is an award winning artist and photographer who has written four novels, a screenplay, and a collection of short stories. Currently he has his artwork displayed in AvantGarden Gallery in downtown Santa Ana. Phil will speak of his experiences in publishing his literary works.

After college and grad school he worked in NYC doing movie advertising. After six years of writing on the side he sold his first novel and biggest hit: THE HEPHAESTUS PLAGUE (pronounced Hefestus) to Putnam Books and it sold in eight countries all over the world. Later the movie rights were sold to WILLIAM CASTLE/PARAMOUNT PICS. The script was refined with the director JEANNOT SZWARC who made it a hit. The film, eventually named BUG was released on the same weekend as the movie JAWS. It earned both First and Second Prize at a French SCI FI HORROR film festival– beating out one of Stephen Kings movies. Two of his novels THE SPIRIT and THE MAN WHO WOULD NOT DIE are to be republished in Spring 2019 as part of classics from the 1970s and 1980s by Valencourtbooks. http://www.valancourtbooks.com/horror--science-fiction.html

SESSION 4 TRUE STORIES FROM THE STREETS TO CELESTIAL REALMS
Presenter: Dan Joyce
Dan was a street musician, then later a fine artist. That would lead to musical composition and video editing. Having had a successful art career, he attained college degrees, studied art in Italy, has been featured in several galleries and museums in Southern California, and has written, illustrated, and published eleven illustrated books. Always, his struggle with mental health, sobriety and fascination with philosophy and world religions have been his primary inspiration for his art and literary works.

From the time she was a young girl in post-World War II Japan celestial beings have been guiding her through her life. Encounters she has had, have led her along unimaginable paths. Her true story tells of her spiritual awakening inspired by encounters with other worlds and their inhabitants. She has published two books about her experiences and discoveries, One Life, Many Worlds and God’s Majesty in Color and Word. She will share her story.
